Problem:

professional translation services for gibson

Gibson had a trade show coming up in Japan, but all showcase videos of their guitars had originally been produced in English. The videos had to be translated, localized, and adapted to the Japanese market to properly represent our clients “hip vibe”, specifically that of Brent Mason who one of the videos showcased.  The client was not familiar with localization, yet was highly concerned about videos being adapted to the Japanese culture. They needed a company to provide professional translation services to handle the job.

Solution:

MAV conducted case studies to find out that most Japanese felt that the “Osaka” dialect, called “Osaka- ben” is the coolest.  It is characterized as being both more melodic and dynamic. Bingo, that’s Brent Mason! “Cool”  as Brent Mason was what our client was looking for.  MAV held auditions in multiple cities to locate a male voiceover talent with an Osaka dialect that was the best fit for Gibson. Recording had been done ahead of schedule and client was extremely happy with the results. They described our talent as Brent Mason’s “brotha from anotha motha”!  Our production allowed our client to have the best representation of their products for the Japanese market.

Details:

The client was looking to present its Brent Mason Signature Guitar to the Japanese market. English videos featured musician Brent Mason, a famous rock guitarist,  who explained in details all the features and advantages of Gibson’s guitar and why he fell in love with it. The goal was to recreate Brent’s voice, so the Japanese viewers could become engaged and understand his love for the instrument. Thus, Gibson needed a translation and voiceover company that could properly convey Brent’s feelings to an audience. The company had to have extensive experience in translation and localization, have a large pool of voiceover talents, and employ professional sound engineers to execute this job.

Problem 1: Localization

In-depth detailed video demands for  a multifunctional voiceover translation company with team of professional translators with a musical background.

Problem 2: Finding right voices

Find a Japanese voiceover talent, which would have a cool, hip, laid back rock star’s voice with deep vocal articulation and who sounded similar to the original English speaking musician. The client did not have translators and foreign language actors on staff and did not have the knowledge or time to set up a voiceover production team.

Problem 3: No time to waste

The client had a very limited time to complete this project.

How we helped Gibson:

  • You needed to work with a translation voiceover company to localize an English video into Japanese.
  • You needed to collaborate with an agency with a large pool of trained voiceover talents.
  • You needed to produce your project in a short period of time.
